“On August 4th, 4 days before my daughters first birthday, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My whole world was turned upside down in a matter of seconds. How could this be happening? I am young, I have no family history of breast cancer and this lump seemed to have appeared overnight. My life was so perfect, we were so blessed and now it all seemed to be falling apart in a matter of seconds. My worst nightmare was becoming a reality.

I had found a lump sometime around the middle of July while weaning breastfeeding and attributed it to all of the hormonal changes my body was experiencing. However, I knew better than to ignore it so I went and got a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy which ultimately lead to my diagnosis. Over the past few weeks I have seen multiple doctors, had multiple scans/tests and started the process for retrieving my eggs. I will be starting chemo therapy soon and will also need radiation, surgery and hormone therapy for quite some time after treatment.

Why am I sharing this? Because while I had fallen into the darkest moments of my life, I was (and continue to be) lifted up by so many people. Not only by my loving husband, my beautiful daughter, my family, friends and co workers, but also by a ton of other people including some that I had never even met. Other women that have survived breast cancer and live to tell their story. Other young women that have undergone treatment for other cancers and continued on to grow their families by having children. Other women that have experienced infertility treatment and can lend me their knowledge and experience in something that was thrown at me so quickly during a whirlwind of other news. ALL of these people have helped to lift my spirits and I am so grateful.I’m just beginning this journey and it’s not without fear, anxiety, sadness, anger or uncertainty. I have good days and bad days. But if there’s one thing I know, it’s that I will fight this. I gain strength by the people around me and every time I look at my daughter. My future may look different than I imagined but I have a beautiful life to continue to live and much more to look forward to. If sharing my story helps even one person get through their darkest days than it was worth it”5f5f78e30dbea.png
