Medical & Safety
No animals, bicycles, skateboards, baby joggers, roller skates or blades,
or other wheeled conveyances are allowed on the course. Personal
headsets are also not permitted as these restrict your safety and our
insurance considerations require that you be able to hear voice commands,
vehicle sirens, and horns. Our agreement with the City of
Wilmington requires that all participants be able to complete the marathon
in seven hours. All runners not keeping this pace will be directed
to the sidewalks to allow traffic to re-open.
Each race will be led by a City of
Wilmington Police officer on a motorcycle. Bicycle pacers will also
accompany the leaders. City of Wilmington Police officers will be
stationed at all the major intersections. Race volunteers will staff the
lower risk traffic intersections.
Medical services are provided by Christiana
Care Health System Emergency Services staff, who are aware and will comply
with all medical privacy rules. There will be two ambulances on site
staffed by EMTs and two bicycle equipped New Castle County paramedic teams
onsite.
The main medical tent will be located adjacent to the finishing area.
Though it’s not a treatment center, our medical staff will assess each
situation and assist in obtaining appropriate treatment for the patient.
Pre and post race massages will be
available to participants of the Delaware Marathon by members of the
Delaware Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association. $1 per
minute donations are welcomed, of course, to cover the costs of their
bringing their own tables and mats. Massages will also be available for
non-participants for a small fee.
Members
of the
Christiana ARES (Amateur Radio
Emergency Specialists)
will also assist the race organizers by providing intercom radio
communication between the Race Organizers; the Christiana Care Medical
Team; and the Wilmington Police Department
If you need medical
assistance while on the course, please ask a course marshal or water
station volunteer for help. Our volunteers will be wearing bright green
t-shirts with “EVENT VOLUNTEER” on them.
The Race Director
reserves the right to remove any participant from the course.
